Annual General Meeting

Members of the Victoria NDP are warmly invited to join us for our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). Come enjoy a cup of coffee, hear about what we’ve been working on over the past year, and learn more about getting involved — including the opportunity to nominate yourself for a position on our Board of Directors.

When and Where

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2:00-4:00pm at the Oaklands Community Centre, 2827 Belmont Ave #1, Victoria, BC V8R 4B2.

There is plenty of street parking available near the centre, but please be mindful not to park in residential spots, or on the elementary school grounds!

Many of our current board members are expected to stand for re-election. We also anticipate tabling a motion to expand the size of the board in order to support more consistent participation and to share the workload more evenly.

Interested members may nominate themselves for Board of Directors positions directly from the floor at the AGM. If you’d like to introduce yourself in advance of nomination, you’re welcome to email us a short bio at President@VictoriaNDP.ca!

What to Expect as a Board Member

EDA Board Members are expected to:

  • Contribute approximately 8–15 hours of volunteer time per month
  • Attend monthly board meetings during their one-year term
  • Review and vote on email motions in a timely manner
  • Respond to all communications in a timely manner

We welcome expressions of interest from all Victoria NDP members! However, because board positions are limited, we ask that you only seek election when you’re confident you can support the organization’s activities in the year to come. Occasional absences are expected, but overall communication and commitment are essential to the organization’s success!

Why Serve on the Board?

The Board is more than a steering committee — it is the lifeblood of the NDP in Victoria. Board members play a central role in:

  • Fundraising for local electoral campaigns
  • Growing and engaging our membership through outreach
  • Planning and hosting events
  • Supporting operational tasks

Board work can include coordinating speakers, reaching out to potential candidates, booking venues, helping with member outreach, creating content for our website, newsletter, or social media, supporting event setup, and much more. If you have specific skills you’d like to contribute, we’d love to hear about them — but no prior experience is required. Enthusiasm and a willingness to help are the most important qualities!

Students and Young Members Encouraged

Serving on your local EDA is a fantastic opportunity for students and young people interested in electoral politics. We strongly encourage you to get involved, regardless of prior experience, and we are happy to provide training and mentorship 🙂

Proposing Motions

If you would like to propose a motion at the AGM that concerns the function or mission of the EDA Board, please email a summary to President@VictoriaNDP.ca in advance so it can be added to the agenda. If you are not sure if your motion applies to this organization, feel free to get in touch — we can always work through it together!

Convention Delegate Applications

Those interested in serving as a 2026 Convention Delegate are encouraged to apply through our Convention 2026 webpage!

Please note, our final application deadline is midnight on January 21, 2026.
